26 Romantic Songs That Perfectly Capture the Feeling of Being in Love

Today is a very special day that I cannot talk about, but what I can do is listen to an absurd amount of love songs that make me giggle. There are songs that sound beautiful, and they’re great, but then there are songs that feel like someone. Someone special that can, will and presently is ruining your life.

The ones that light up your chest, make your heart race a little faster, and remind you that sometimes, love doesn’t have to be loud, it just has to be yours. It has to be sweet, and it has to be crazy.
So, here’s my playlist of 26 love songs, the kind that feel like sunlight, obsession, laughter, and destiny all stitched into melody. Some are for the way love makes you blush, and some for the way it ruins you so sweetly.

If you know, you know.

1. Gorgeous by Taylor Swift

Because sometimes, someone walks into your life and suddenly every other man on earth looks like a toad, and not the Disney kind. The kind of beauty that would turn your otherwise sharp tongued mouth speechless. I can’t say anything to your face, coz look at your face.

You make me so happy it turns back to sad,
There’s nothing I hate more than what I can’t have,
You are so gorgeous it makes me so mad

You know what? Relatable. Very relatable. Hating someone because you love them so much – totally valid. I am normal.

2. London Boy by Taylor Swift

He might not be British, but the joy in this song mirrors that ridiculous fondness you can’t fake.

But something happened, I heard him laughing
I saw the dimples first and then I heard the accent
They say home is where the heart is
But that’s not where mine lives

Who wrote this song? Oh yeah, that’s right – Taylor Swift. And we all know she is very normal in love, just like most of us are… Right?

3. Lover by Taylor Swift (ft. Shawn Mendes)

The musical equivalent of a heart doing cartwheels.I don’t know, sometimes a song doesn’t need genius lyricism to convey the feeling. Sometimes, it has to be juvenile –

Can I go where you go,
Can we always be this close?
Forever and ever

You think you could’ve written that at fourteen? Yeah, that’s the point. That’s how love should make you feel.

4. Paper Rings by Taylor Swift

This is what being a girl is all about. To be a blind dumb piece of panini head, because you like someone. “I like shiny things but I’ll marry you with paper rings” if you can relate to this line – you need therapy.

And an exorcism. And probably a death followed by resurrection because you are gone gone. Like not even all the gods from all the religions from all the planets from all the galaxies from all the universes can save you now even if they joined all their forces, and took help from Rajnikant and Thala.

5. Wish List by Taylor Swift

All these people around me want all these things – let them have all of it, I only want you.

This song is very cute. Hope they get what they want, they deserve what they want

But for herself she says – Hope I get what I want, coz I know what I want. I just want you…

She doesn’t self declare herself worthy of the person she loves – why? Because that’s how it feels.

6. I Think He Knows by Taylor Swift

I think he knows. Of course he does, I am not very good at hiding.

This song is so hehe. It’s what you giggle at when you think about fun moments with your crush.

7. Daylight by Taylor Swift

The kind of love that makes everything brighter. My advice would be to never ever dedicate this song to anyone even in your heart because once you do it, your life is done, which it already is because the very fact that you are reading this means you are already a gone case.

8. Don’t Blame Me by Taylor Swift

Love made me crazy. End of story.

I very strictly believe if you act normally in love – you are probably faking it. Think Ragini from Swaragini. THAT is love. And she did win in the end so… Don’t blame me.

9. Red by Taylor Swift

I recently heard this song for the first time – I don’t listen to all Taylor Swift songs just because they are hers. Her songs find me – this is a spiritual practice, you won’t get it.

I have never understood the moving on concept. How do you move on from someone you love? And I always felt that forgetting someone you love makes exactly the same amount of sense as getting to know someone you have never actually met, in real life or online. It’s vague. Because how would you know such a person even exists if you have never witnessed their existence? – exactly the same amount of logic as forgetting someone you love so much. The song nails it.

10. Call It What You Want by Taylor Swift

The title makes you feel this would be accusatory towards the lover for not titling the romance as love – BUT oh my god! This is what safe love feels like, when you can be you – even in your worst times. This is who you are supposed to marry and yes, I do realise god went off the script for some people on this one.

11. The Fate Of Ophelia by Taylor Swift

There’s just something so beautiful about being pulled out of madness, just as much as being pushed into insanity. To know in your heart that you would have been doing so poor mentally, but because this one person saved you – you’re fine. Modern women are no damsel in distress, but they still want to be saved by that one person, and only that one person – and I think that’s portrayed really well in the song.

12. So High School by Taylor Swift

This one’s special because you know how to ball, I know Aristotle.

When my cover is a backsweep,
Pull me to the backseat
No-one’s ever had me
Not like you

Someone that has your back on your darkest days. There’s nothing romantic about that. Really, absolutely nothing.

13. Mastermind by Taylor Swift

Traditionally speaking, the song would not qualify as a romantic song because it’s all about methodically designing the someone’s life events in a way that makes them cross paths with you, and then fall in love with you. But like we have established, I am not traditionally normal. I believe in psychopaths, and I fully support this behaviour because why would you not?

And to add onto that, the song goes

So I told you none of it was accidental
And the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me
I laid the groundwork and then saw a wide smirk
On your face, you knew the entire time
You knew that I’m a mastermind
And now you’re mine
Yeah, all you did was smile
‘Cause I’m a mastermind

Nothing quite like knowing that your absolute, jail worthy psycho behaviour is appreciated and supported by its subject.

Yes, that’s 13 Taylor Swift songs. I know. I might have a minor problem. (I will not be getting better.)

14. Nobody Does It Like You by Selena Gomez

You know, being in love in your teens/twenties feels so much like ha! I know this is so self destructive but I love it so I will do it anyway because fuck life.

You’re my bad boy fairytale
Prince Charming with a dark side

Has even Wattpad on knees. Not even your step mother selling you to one direction can top this. Iconinc. Relatable.

And like I said – perfectly normal.

15. Love You Like A Love Song by Selena Gomez

There’s nothing more personal than songs. There’s nothing more romantic than songs, and I can prove it.

Imagine someone gets you flowers.
Now imagine someone writes a song for you.

Which would be more personal? You know why? Because romance stems from music. Nobody would ever fall in love if it weren’t for the music. And you know the height of loving someone? Loving them like a love song. Loving them like your favorite romantic melody. The ones that get it, get it. The ones that don’t – are why Thanos wanted to do what he wanted to do.

Classic. Iconic. Eternal. Love.

16. Write Your Name by Selena Gomez

People over the internet were going crazy when we found out Machine Gun Kelly gave Megan Fox a ring that would be painful to remove because of the design. And then there were the Wattpad generation who didn’t see what the problem was. You are allowed to guess which category I belong to.

Love is possessive. It’s engraved, it’s permanent, it’s hopeless.

It’s your name across my heart
Written in gold, a permanent mark
Love engraved, it’s what we are
More than words, this love is art
Poetry in motion, put it right there
Deeper than skin, crystal clear
Letters don’t fade, titanium made
Forever here, forever saved

Real psychopaths love this love. And everything else is just soap opera.

17. A Year Without Rain by Selena Gomez

What longing in love feels like. I have always wondered how people stay sane in long distance relationships. My best friend was away for her education for one year and here, her partner went straight to madness.

And as a hardcore misandrist, that earned my respect and approval. I hate all men but you get a pass. Marry my best friend.

Some absences ache like droughts. And if you know anything, you’d know what I am talking about.

18. Music Feels Better by Selena Gomez

Like I said, the thing closest to you is music. There’s absolutely nothing in this world that can make music better – that’s like finding someone more powerful than god. Music transcends everything – Language, borders, race, gender, everything.

And to make the music feel better, you need something powerful. Something that is bigger than god – and that’s love. Music does feel better with him. Because everything does, when it’s him.

19. Back to You by Selena Gomez

This song is so toxic. You could break my heart in two, but when it heals it beats for you. Slay.

You know you are biologically a girl when that’s true for you. This might be poision and I have fallen sick because of this multiple times but hey, it’s tasty so I will have it again.

20. Good For You by Selena Gomez

The art of looking calm while falling apart. This is a confession. It’s what you expect Morgan to say to detective Karedec. What Mabel should say to Theo (I mean, he won’t be able to hear tho). Syncopate my skin to your heart beating. I don’t even know what that line means but trust me, it’s very deep.

OMG did you really just have 7 back to back Selena Gomez songs after saying 13 Taylor Swift songs are a problem? Yes. Yes, I did.  Alcoholics need to divert their addiction to something else. But when I do it for music artists it’s suddenly not cool anymore?

21. Me Gustas Tu by Manu Chao

There’s just something about this song. Every alternate line is “Me Gustas Tu” and the very concept of one line comprising like 50% of the whole song sounds very… boring, i guess. But not this one. The simplest, truest confession: I like you. Let me list down the things I like – airplanes, you, travel, you, morning, you, summer, you.

Like, I might be wrong but as an ICSE student I think the author here might be saying he likes the muse of the song. But again, literature is open to all interpretations.

    22. Vacio by Luis Fonsi

I feel empty when you’re not here with me? Yes, of course I do. The lyrics are very dramatic, and maybe they sound dramatic to me because they’re in Spanish but this song is every bit relatable. This is pre- Fate of Ophelia core. When love feels like your drawing and only and only one person can save  you.

    23. Fairytale by Alexander Rybak

You know this post is all about loyalty and being in love with that one person and whatever but if I could marry Alexander Rybak, I would. This song alone is my dowry. The lyricism, the music, the man. This man deserved to be Taylor Swift of men.

“I’m in love with a fairytale

    Even though it hurts

‘Cause I don’t care if I lose my mind

    I’m already cursed”

    Sir? SIR?

Relatable. Every one sided lover can relate.

    24. Arms of Gold by Tape Machines

Always felt this gives me the Fate of Ophelia vibes. The kind of love where you know you’re protected openly, not hushed. Someone to guide you out of the storm where it felt home.

    25. Iraaday by Abdul Hannan and Rovalio

Yet again a song that cannot, should not and must not be dedicated to any human male organ
    holder. This isn’t a request, it’s a warning.

Chahu ke mujhtak rahein, teri nigahein

    Same bro, same.

    26. Khabar Nahi from Dostana

Kis taraf hai aasmaan, kis taraf zameen – whoever thought that, l like from the scratch, deserves to be the owner of the music production. Hindi songs don’t really do much for me but this one? Winner.

Happy 26th Birthday to Whomsoever it May Concern 💛
